Ms. Freeman was born in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1956. She attended the University of Virginia and graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences with honors in 1978, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy. She studied law at the University of Virginia, receiving a juris doctor degree in 1981. Ms. Freeman was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1981 and the California Bar in 1982. From 1981 to 1982, Ms. Freeman served as law clerk to the Honorable Paul A. Mueller Jr., Court of Common Pleas in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Freeman specializes in both the coverage and defense aspects of litigation involving environmental matters, employment and discrimination disputes, intellectual property, reinsurance and coinsurance, indemnity obligations, bad faith, professional malpractice, product liability and construction defects.

Ms. Freeman practices in both state and federal courts and is admitted to practice before each of the United States District Courts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Her appellate experience is extensive and includes cases involving contribution and apportionment between insurance carriers and bad faith. Ms. Freeman has been appointed by the United States District Court for the Central District of California to represent death row inmates in federal habeas corpus proceedings.
